As Orwell Bridge faces repair works – we need to talk about the Northern Bypass again

Suffolk’s trade titan, the Port of Felixstowe, relies on a strong road network to flourish – so it’s about time we started talking about the Ipswich Northern Bypass again.
Thousands of lorries carrying goods across the country make their way over the Orwell Bridge every day and need a route they can rely on – not to mention the thousands more commuters who need to get to work every morning.
When it closes, even for a few hours, chaos erupts in Ipswich, with journeys taking hours rather than minutes.
Here, we look at the Orwell Bridge conundrum and call for the idea of a Northern Bypass to be looked at again.
